Socratic method
Named for Socrates, this is a form of inquiry that is based on asking and answering questions.

The goal is to stimulate critical thinking, and to help a person or group discover the full rammifications of their beliefs about some topic, eliminate those that lead to contradictions, and replace them with better ones.

Notes
1. This type of teaching method — based on the belief that knowledge is latent in minds and can be teased out via dialectical method — is called maieutics.
