sassatavada
(Pali = eternalism)

A Buddhist and Hindu term for the belief that you have an unchanging, eternal self (or soul).

Notes
1. The Buddha rejected this concept, as well as it opposite ucchedavada (annihilation after death), elaborating a middle way between the them:
(a) that there IS rebirth (samsara) and
(b) that the illusory self must BE annihilated to end the cycle (anatta).
