moksha (Pali)
(Sanskrit = emancipation, liberation or release)

A concept found in Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism, it denotes the termination of samsara, the eternal cycle of death and rebirth.

Notes
1. In its soteriological sense, it connotes freedom from samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth.

In its epistemological and psychological sense, it connotes freedom, self-realization and self-knowledge.

2. In Hindu traditions, it is a central concept and included as one of the four aspects of Purusartha, the goals of human life.
