kevala jnana
(Sanskrit = omniscience)

The Jain equivalent of enlightenment. The term is roughly translated as "know-it-all-ness."

Notes
1. The Jains believe that kevala jnana is an intrinsic quality of all souls, but that it is masked by karmic particles surrounding the soul. However, every soul has the potential to obtain kevala jnana by shedding off these karmic particles.

2. A soul who has attained kevala jnana is called a kevalin .
