Axial Age
The years 800−200 BCE in Asia and south-eastern Europe.

It is important because during that period thinkers — such as the Buddha, Mahavira, Thales, Plato, Confucius, and Lao-tsu — formulated belief systems that much of the world still lives by.

Notes
1. The philosopher Karl Jaspers coined the term die Achsenzeit, Axial Age, to emphasize its pivotal importance in the evolution of human thought.
