The name for the foundational scriptures of Zoroastrianism.
1. The Aryan Iranian tribes spoke Avestan, a language which now only exists in the Avesta.
2. The Indo-Iranians worshiped an overarching “king of the gods,” who eventually became irrelevant and was forgotten. The Iranians called him Dyaos, and the Indians called him Dyaus-Pitr, later known as the Greek and Roman gods Zeus and Jupiter.
