Definition - A compound adjective in which the adjectives are separated by an intervening word.

Example -
first- and second-generation computers

Usage:

1. Hyphenate both of the adjectives.
left- and right-brained people

2. Avoid forming them from non-adjectives.
It accepts both upper- and lowercase letters. (bad)
It accepts both uppercase and lowercase letters. (good)
