Another name for a heteronym, a word that is spelled the same as another word but that is pronounced differently and has a different meaning, i.e. they are homographs that are not homophones
For example, the word desert means "abandon" when it is pronounced di - 'zert, but it means "arid region" when it is pronounced 'dezz - ert.
