The Dictionary of the Climate Debate (DCD)

Eddy, John

(1931 - 2009) An American astronomer who in 1976 published a paper entitled The Maunder Minimum that identified and named a period from 1645 to 1715 when almost all solar activity stopped. He also found evidence for another similar period from about 1460 to 1550 that he named the Sp Minimum.

In addition, he noticed that both of these minima occurred during the coldest parts of the Little Ice Age, a correlation that has stoked the doubt of many an AGW skeptic. To read the paper, click here.
