Which is he:
Chicken Little or
the canary in the coal mine?

(1941) The head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, he is one of the world's leading climate modelers. His 1988 warning to congress about impending climate change was a key event in raising popular awareness in the United States. Some skeptics think he's an alarmist who rigs his models to promote hysteria. Many proponents think he's a secular prophet (a Jeremiah?) who is trying to save us from our folly.

What Hansen thinks we should do to fossil energy CEOs

"CEOs of fossil energy companies know what they are doing and are aware of the long-term consequences of continued business as usual. In my opinion, these CEOs should be tried for high crimes against humanity and nature." [By the IPCC Litigation Group 1?]

1. Click here to read William Gray's statement of fervent opposition to the American Meterological Society's awarding of James Hansen its Rossby Research Medal. Basically Gray is arguing the case of the traditional observational meteorologist vs. arriviste climate modeler.

2. Click here to read an excellent Elizabeth Kolbert piece on Hansen, the Catastrophist.

3. Click here to read an essay where Hansen explains where he gets his temperature data from. He also describes some of the threats he's getting from nut-cases.
