The Dictionary of the Climate Debate (DCD)

Definition: The name of the interglacial that preceded the Holocene.

It spanned 130,000 BP to 114,000 BP, and it was warmer than the Holocene. For example, at its peak hippopotamuses basked in the Thames, southern Baffin Island was treed, and — because sea levels were 4-6 meters higher than they are now — Scandinavia was an island.

1. The NEEM project is an attempt to learn more about this period by drilling a 1.6 K ice core in North Greenland.
