Definition: The study of culturally-induced ignorance or doubt; in particular, the publication of inaccurate or misleading scientific data (by, say, the tobacco industry).

Notes:
1. The term was coined by Robert N. Proctor, a Stanford University professor who specializes in the history of science and technology.
